Sonamgang PS observes Social Forestry Day
Today 2nd June 2026 is celebrated as the Social Forestry Day throughout the nation. It was on this day in 1974; the Bhutanese people celebrated the coronation of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Since 1985, the Coronation Day is a social forestry day and widely celebrated to encourage tree plantation. On the auspicious day, led by the Principal, Vice Principal and all the staff of Sonamgang Primary School joined the nation to celebrate the blissful occasion in plantation of betel nut saplings around the school premises. We respectfully extend our prayers and best wishes for the long life of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, and for the continued prosperity and flourishing of the Kingdom of Bhutan under the eternal stewardship of its Kings. The School Management extends its sincere thanks to the Green School Team for coordinating this event, and also expresses its appreciation to the Transportation Team for collecting the saplings. We are pleased to share that Mr. Gaurav Ray , United Nations Resident Coordinator and team , visited our school this morning. During the hour-long engagement, Mr. Ray interacted with students and staff, and was briefed on UNICEF-supported initiatives that have been integrated into our school’s programs. His observations will help inform ongoing and future cooperation between the UN and national partners. The school Management and Inclusive Education Team presented on a brief on our inclusive education initiatives and degree of impact on children’s lives.
